Emergency responders and fire fighters have started the clear out of burnt cars from the petrol tanker fire wreckage that completely destroyed over 30 cars.
While a side of the lane has been cleared for gradual movement of vehicles, alot of travellers into Lagos are still held up in the traffic jam which has lasted several hours.
No official cause of the incident has been confirmed but several witnesses claim "a tanker was trying to reverse, fell into a ditch, started leaking and soon exploded afterwards."
The break out fire is said to have consumed over 30 cars with probable high casualties as several public buses and vehicles conveying people were among the fatalities.
