LINDA ANGELA IGWETU: TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR SLAIN CORPER KILLED BY POLICE IN ABUJA

Tributes have continued to pour in for Linda Igwetu, the corper who was shot by a Police officer while returning from a hangout with friends at the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Narrating what transpired, convener of #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG Mr Segun Awosanya said: ‘‘She finished at work late at about 11pm and joined a few friends to a hangout before their Passing Out Parade scheduled for Thursday, July 5, 2018.

‘‘They left for home at about 3am and was shot at shortly after the check point immediately after Ceddi Plaza by a Police Officer identified as Benjamin Peters.

‘‘The bullet hit Angela on her side, by the midriff and she began losing blood in the open roof vehicle.

‘‘She was rushed to the Garki hospital but they wouldn’t treat her until they see a police report despite the fact that the police officers were present. While the deliberation was ongoing, Angela bled to death.’’

The sister of the deceased said the Police claimed the Policeman who pulled the trigger saw the car approaching and in his subconscious heard a plea of help from the vehicle, and since the driver zoomed off while approaching the check point, decided to shoot.

Since the sad incident became public knowledge, several people have sent in their tributes with many firing the flames of their demands of a thorough police reform.

Rapper, Falz The Bahd Guy tweeted his disdain at the system, he wrote: ‘If somebody has a gunshot wound and they are brought to your hospital, you are supposed to treat them, not ask for any f*cking police report. Even if na suspected armed robber, who are you to deprive them of the right to stay alive? Let the court pass judgement.

‘‘This country ehn. I really don’t grab. Sigh.’’
