Chris Iwarah, Head Corporate Communications at Air Peace has died in an auto crash.
The crash which was said to have happened on Friday, June 8, 2019 along the Mangoro axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
Ace Journalist, Chris Kehinde Nwandu who visited the scene of the accident, share photos with the caption:
"ARE WE CURSED AS A PEOPLE OR IS IT THE ANIMALISTIC NATURE IN US THAT IS WORKING ?
Few minutes past 2pm yesteday on my way back from LASU ,I received a call from a lady whose name I don't want to mention who is on this platform
You remember the call that almost got me into trouble with those the LGA thugs .
Based on the urgency on her voice, I had to park to listen to her.
CKN ,she began,an accident has just happened in my presence at Mangoro,Lagos along the Abeokuta Lagos expressway, it involved a car marked Peace Airline and one of those long vehicles that looks like a BRT bus,it ran into the vehicle and several of the occupants are seriously injured and are lying down unattended to.
She said she is so mad that instead of people trying to help the injured and ferry them to the hospital, they are all taking pictures and videos.
It took her shout and crying for them to lift a finger to help them.
She told me her doubt about their surviving.
As a journalist, my first instinct was to slam it as a breaking and urgent news but since I didn't have the few details to run with I had to wait for more details.
In journalism we were taught the five Ws and H, any news item without those elements is not good to fly.
Later last night ,the news came clearer, one of the victim of that accident was a fellow journalist and Head Corporate Communications of Peace Airline, Chris Iwarah,I don't know Chris neither have I met him before, but the fact is that he would probably be alive today if people had helped to take them to the hospital early rather than taking selfies, pictures and videos.
That's the daily occurence allover Nigeria now, human life means nothing to us.
While engaging in all this, dont forget it could be your turn or that of your relatives tomorrow.
What we sow today will come back to hunt us.
This animalistic tendencies in us must stop.
RIP Chris, Its quite unfortunate, your country failed you at your most crucial moment .Amb CKN
