"SOME WOMEN USE VACUUM HOSE TO SUCK OUT THEIR PERIOD" - DR KELECHI OKORO REVEALS

Founder and Executive Director, Heal For Africa Initiative, Dr Kelechi Okoro, with the Twitter handle @Healthertainer has revealed shocking details behind women using vacuum hose to sucm out their period in a bit to shorten the length.

In a series of tweet, she wrote:

"In my 32 years in this life, i only just heard that some women use "vacuum hose" to "suck out their periods" so as to shorten the length of their menstrual flow 😭😭

So i looked it up. Alas, it has been a thing. Since 1971 😟

Menstrual extraction (ME) is a type of manual vacuum aspiration technique developed by feminist activists, Lorraine Rothman and Carol Downer, to pass the entire menses at once - Wikipedia

The non-medicalized technique has been used in small feminist self-help groups since 1971 and has a social role of allowing access to early abortion without needing medical assistance or legal approval. - Wikipedia

The procedure is however done with a Menstrual Extraction kit and not a vacuum hose.

Period can be very stressful. I agree. Some women experience severe dysmenorrhae (pain during menstruation) menorrhagia (heavy flow).

Some also bleed for as long as 5 to 7days

(normal periods last between 2 - 7days)

If you have a bothersome menstrual cycle, you should see a doctor instead of resorting to dangerous methods like USING A VACUUM HOSE TO EXTRACT YOUR menstrual products

How about the risk of infections or potential harm to the vagina, cervix or any of the other organs

Where abortion is illegal, women use the method to terminate pregnancy.

I am still in sifia pains over this new information. What are your thoughts?"
