SUPER FALCONS SECURE FIRST VICTORY AT WORLD CUP

The Super Falcons of Nigeria secured a vital win 2-0 win over South Korea. They took the lead in the first half after a mix-up between Kim Doyeon and Kim Minjung saw the defender send her clearance into the back of her own empty net.

FC Barcelona Striker Asisat Oshoala then doubled the lead for the Falcons with 15 minutes left of the game after she showed great pace and strength to get past Hwang and roll the ball into the net.

Korea did create a couple of good chances and hit the woodwork through Moon late in the second half, but in the end, it wasn't enough to get them on the scoresheet.

Nigeria now go level on points with France and Norway in Group A and have given themselves a good chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the competition. They will now be turning their attention to their tough match against the hosts, France on Monday.

As for South Korea, they still have a very slim chance of progressing out of the group, but will need to beat Norway by a large margin in their next game to stand a chance of qualifying.
